history
Welcome! Inside this thread you will find a list of all AOM's species. In the beginning, we only started out with nine species! The site has grown quite a bit since then and as time continues to go on, not only will the staff occasionally introduce a new species, but you'll be able to submit your own in species contests. Many of the species have been on the land for a long while in different forms and have evolved from lesser complex life forms over the course of millions of years.

Everything inside the species will be broken down as you see it: a brief history, physical appearance, behaviors, and the abilities that species has. All species inside are born, not made. The only exceptions to this rule are Angels, Werewolves, and Vampires. Read their species descriptions for further information. All species also age and mature like a human would in about the first 25 years of their lives, but about that time, the physical age of longer-lived species slows down significantly; their physical aging does not stop entirely.

Please do not try to make a character under the age of 13. With such a heavy emphasis on the academy, characters under that age are highly unlikely to fit into this setting since the academy will not accept anyone under that age.

physical appearance
All of the species you find here have a human form and a natural form. In human form, they obviously look like humans, but their natural forms are what you read them to be. Natural forms for dragons will be dragons, and so on and so forth. The physical attributes of each species are flexible for the most part. Read the descriptions for further information.

behavior
Each species has a different collective behavior. Please note that the written behaviors and personalities are not constricting. They are just a generalization of the species as a whole and you are by no means required to make your character match those traits exactly, seeing as each character is unique.

abilities
Many species have various powers of some kind. You'll need to read into the species you're interested in to find out more. The powers and abilities of the species are set in stone and characters should not have abilities or powers that do not fit the criteria you find.

anomalies
Many species have variations within them, either slight or massive, and these variations in the species have been labeled collectively as “Anomaly”. At the very base, their behaviors and abilities tend to reflect the main species closely, but their variations from the main branch is what makes them unique and separate. They are born from two parents of the main branch, two parents of the Anomaly branch, or one of each. They share the same lifespan as the main branch of their species. Below is a list of species with Anomalies. Anomalies are not available to be created freely. They can only be won as a prize in contests or bought through the site shoppe.

mutants
٥ Multi-Mutants. This Anomaly is a rare case of a mutant who displays more than one distinct ability. Many of this Anomaly seem to have two different powers, but there are some with three and a very few recorded with four. These powers can vary greatly. With more than one power often tends to come more backlash from the power's weaknesses, but Multi-Mutants are known to be quite a bit hardier than normal Mutants because of this fact.

shifters
٥ Multi-Shifts. Somewhat similar to Multi-Mutants, this Anomaly of Shifters have the rare ability to shift into more than one animal. Two or three, and in very rare cases, four or five; five seems to be the maximum. It has been recorded that there is an identifying mark between each of the shifts to indicate the same Shifter. Some stories show that not all shifts are apparent shortly after birth, and that new ones appear closer to puberty. The most notable ability of this Anomaly is the ability to combine their shifts, similar to how hybrids could appear. It is possible for them to mix the DNA and shift into some form of a half shift between two animals.

٥ Extinct Shifts. This denomination of Shifters consists of those who can shift into species long or recently extinct. These seem to be just as rare as Multi-Shift Shifters. A few have recorded species having gone extinct a decade ago to species having gone extinct millions of years ago.

faefolk
٥ Pixies. While they have a more normal human form, their natural form is incredibly tiny, generally no more than a foot tall with delicate wings aiding them in flight. They give off a bright glow while in this tiny form and have tendencies to enjoy mischief and dance. Much like Faefolk, they are closely in tune with nature and it reflects in their wing and skin patterns, as well as in the similar nature-related abilities they have.

werewolves
٥ Hellhounds. This anomaly is well known for their very large appearances, typically having very thick fur and eyes that flash a bright red with heightened emotion. They are quicker and stronger than werewolves, and they have fire-based powers. Typically this is limited to fire manipulation. Breathing fire is common for them. They also have phantom-like or ghostly characteristics, meaning it's not odd to see their fur disappearing in wisps of smoke around them. They are also occasionally known for growing horns on their head and spine.

٥ Dire wolves. They are known mostly for their massive size, heavily outgrowing the size of horse-sized werewolves. While they won't ever reach the size of mountains as Behemoths or dragons can, their biggest size is typically that of a two story house. Their most prominent feature is their saber-like teeth, growing down past their lower jaw. They were said to once be the main rivals of saber-toothed felines.

gryphons
٥ Enfields. These are incredibly rare, as few cases of them have been documented. It is thought they were once hunted to near extinction and coveted for their unique appearances. They have the head of a fox, forelegs of an eagle's talons, and sometimes the hindquarters and tail of a wolf. Here is a reference image. They are much smaller than Gryphons, but are just as prideful.

٥ Perytons. They are iconic for their appearances. They have the head, neck, forelegs and antlers of a stag, combined with the plumage, wings and hindquarters of a large bird. Rather than mimicking the colors of a stag, they tend to mimic the colors of the bird half of their bodies.

٥ Hippogriffs. Very similar to Gryphons, the only difference here is that rather than the hind half of a predatory feline, these creatures have the hind halves of horses.

dragons
٥ Leviathans. They are commonly mistaken as "sea monsters" and their appearances certainly don't debunk this. They are massive and known to take to water, covered in scales and fins that definitely suit that lifestyle.

٥ Hydras. This Anomaly seems to take after serpentine water monster, but is simply a type of Dragon with multiple heads. This often gives this Anomaly very strong, different types of personalities, and the removal of one head will result in the regrowth of one or multiple. In addition to the Dragon magic they carry in them, their blood and breath is poisonous.

kitsune
٥ Behemoths. While normal Kitsune are known to rarely become larger than their own human form, these Behemoths are a different story. They are massive, larger than mountains, and tend to be far more powerful than regular Kitsune. They are often seen as demons, generally twisted into a wicked creature in public eyes. The incredible thing about their appearances is that their human forms mismatch with their fox forms, often an early sign of a Behemoth child, as normal Kitsune don't exhibit this trait.

centaurs
٥ Pawtaurs. Rather than having a horse half to their body, Pawtaurs are Centaurs with paws instead of hooves. They cannot shift into a full animal form, but have the other halves of animals such as dogs, cats, kangaroos, etc.

٥ Sleipnir-taurs. In mythology, Sleipnir is the eight-legged horse child of Loki, but on AoM, all it indicates is centaurs who have the anomaly gene of having eight legs. They are known for being significantly faster and having far more endurance than normal Centaurs.

vampires
٥ Nightcrawler Shifts. There are very little differences between Vampires and their Nightcrawler brethren. The Nightcrawler Vampires simply have the ability to shift into a solitary animal associated with the night, such as felines, bats, etc.

basilisks
٥ Naga. Simple to explain, these anomalies do not have the ability to shift fully into a snake. The lower halves of their bodies shift into the back half of a snake, each set of scales just as unique and colorful as their basilisk brethren. They have the same set of mood-changing eyes. While they can turn people to stone, they don't necessarily need to feed from that soul energy to survive. It's more of a nutrient booster. They can survive off of regular food.

٥ Gargantuans. The name is what it says. This basilisk anomaly is enormous. Think of the basilisk in the Harry Potter movies. Very, very large, rivaling the size of houses when coiled up, but still just as colorful and unique in pattern as normal basilisks. They have the same mood-changing eyes and same stone-turning abilities, but unlike Naga, they need to feed from soul energy to survive. The only other thing unique about them is the incredibly potent venom their bodies produce.

unicorns
٥ Pegacorns. Physically, everything about this Anomaly is the exact same as Unicorns, right down to the unique marking, only they have wings that make them capable of flight. It is believed that this is potentially an evolutionary thing for the sake of survival in times that Unicorns were hunted.

٥ Kirin. The traits they share with Unicorns include the identification mark, but these creatures are very much a mixture of what seems to be Dragons and Unicorns in terms of appearance. Their physical traits vary from specimen to specimen, but they are often seen holding the dainty physique of a Unicorn down to the hooves while having stag-light antlers and scales similarly seen on certain Dragons. Their hooves and horns are made of the same hard material found in Unicorns, but their tails can be long and whip-like or short and flowing of hair like a mane. Image reference. They are often seen as a good omen of prosperity and wealth.

mutants
created by: staff
Lifespan: 68 to 112 years.

history
They are one of the longest reigning species on the planet and have been around for many years, though they have no particularly special origin. However, in many early years, they could have been seen as 'demons' or 'witches' by those without powers and were often treated as such, hunted, burned at the stake, etc. It's not uncommon to read of mutants suffering death because of their abilities in history textbooks.

physical appearance
They come in all shapes and sizes, though there is nothing exemplary about this species where physical traits are concerned. Their hair can naturally be any color on the spectrum, as well as their eyes. Some may have powers that can alter their physical appearances.

behavior
Behaviors vary between each person and there are no particularly defining traits in personality.

abilities
Mutants, while similar to humans, have a genetic mutation somewhere in their DNA that leaves them born with a "superpower" if you will. Each mutant is born only with one power and can learn to master it with age. Younger mutants have problems with their powers, either a lack of control or having negative affects on their bodies that won't go away until they can control it to a higher degree as they get older, but usually only much older, up in the late thirties rolling onto the forties. No mutant barely into their years of life will have a great control over their ability.

Some powers are simple and others are not, and mutants are only born, they cannot be made through science experiments or the like. A mutant will not go past the age of 12 at the most without discovering what their power is. If it's past that age, then they're human. If you need help thinking up a power, THIS SITE should be of some incredible help to you. Time travel mutants and mutants with life/death related powers must be purchased from the site shoppe.

shifters
created by: staff
Lifespan: 68 to 128 years

history
They are one of the species that has been around for a significant amount of time, though they have no particular special origin nor really any significant history. Though incredibly less common today, it was not uncommon at one point for people to go out of their way poaching shifters for their colorful pelts.

physical appearance
They appear similar to humans and mutants in many ways while in human form, but they are stuck with at least one physical trait they cannot rid themselves of from their animal shift. Generally, they can be as simple as fangs or eyes or as complex as scales across the skin or full blown appendages.

Shifters are only capable of shifting into a single animal, not many, and their natural hair color reflects in the scales, skin, pelt, feathers, etc. of whatever animal they shift into. In short, it's not uncommon to see a bright pink cat walking down the street; the color of the fur or whatever else is generally the biggest implication that the animal is a shifter (in normal cats, bright pink fur will not occur, for example).

This species also has the incredible ability to perform "half-shifts" and are one of the only species capable of doing so. Think of anthromorphic animals, a mix of human and animal, standing up on two legs and carrying broad features of their animal shift all over their body. It certainly sets them out from everyone else around them. Some choose to live their entire lives in a half-shift, others do not.

behavior
Generally, behavior between each person of this species varies depending on the person, as it would for anyone else, but because they are half animal, many tend to pick up the personality attributes of the animal they can shift into. Not always, but many times such a thing can be present in the way they act or in their general personality.

abilities
They can transform into animals, but only one, and there is no specific reason to the animal that they can shift into. A fox and a horse shifter could produce a child that can shift into an alligator. Some believe it's a "spirit animal" ordeal, others don't. There's no true explanation. Their powers are relatively simple, but they cannot shift into a baby animal when they are fully grown and they cannot shift into anything that is considered a fantasy species. Normal animals only.

werewolves
created by: staff
Lifespan: 350 to several thousand, assumed immortal

history
The first appearances of werewolves many, many years ago were not exactly the best, considering the violent tendencies of the species around the full moon. While they have no special origin, there has always seemed to have been a stigma of "Werewolves vs. Vampires" running throughout history. In some cases, this is true and not entirely unheard of, especially during the species war, but generally this isn't the case anymore. Perhaps at one time they were simply not so fond of sharing the night with one another.

physical appearance
In human form, they appear relatively normal, aside from wolf-like teeth and some features on occasion. They can also summon their ears and tail or other small features into this form, but they are not capable of a half shift until the full moon rolls around. Their most distinguished forms are their wolf forms.

For the majority of the time, their wolf forms are like that of normal wolves you'd see in the wild, walking and running around on all four limbs with normal wolf paws, with the exception that werewolves are much larger. Their natural hair colors reflect in their pelts, so pink and blue wolves aren't abnormal to see at all. They only grow with age, as well, and once at least a thousand years pass, some werewolves may have grown to the size of Clydesdale horses.

In the 6 days following the approach of the full moon every month, their form changes. This is where the half-shift comes into play. Rather than being on all four paws normally, their forms change as the full moon begins to approach, turning into more human-like, anthromorphic forms. They are forced to change into this form as soon as the moon rises on the night of the full moon, but when the sun rises the next day, everything is back to normal until the next full moon approaches.

behavior
Though every person is different, down to their core, werewolves are known to be generally aggressive, territorial and easily irritated, though they can be some of the biggest sweethearts and loyalest people you will ever meet. If backed into a corner or having the right buttons pushed, it wouldn't be a surprise even if the most docile werewolf bared their teeth.

Many young wolves do not have control over their shifts during the full moon. They are generally far more agitated and restless in the days approaching, but on the night of the full moon, many untrained and young werewolves black out and set off on a rampage. Older wolves with control as a society generally take it upon themselves to reign these young wolves in to prevent harm to others. Not everyone can be saved. It takes many years of training to gain control over a shift on the full moon.

abilities
Obviously, they have the ability to turn into wolves and they don't really have any other remarkable ability. Their speed, strength, and senses (especially taste, scent, hearing and sight) are enhanced. However, they have the capability to make other werewolves. Rather than relying solely on breeding, the bite of a werewolf only on the night of the full moon can create another werewolf.

This only affects humans, mutants and shifters. When they are bitten, they are injected with a wolf venom, so to speak, and are ill for three days following. High fevers, generally ill, as the venom works its way through their system and they're turned. They forfeit their former species entirely and any other species bitten may only feel a little sick. However, new werewolves are often a problem, because while born werewolves can learn control faster, these turned werewolves are like newborns--entirely out of control of their shiny new abilities.

And, contrary to how movies make it seem, werewolves have no allergy or weakness to silver.

merfolk
created by: staff
Lifespan: 350 years to about 4000 years

history
Though they are known as a species often associated with water, they have spent much of history on land as well, having evolved over time to be able to handle two separate forms for the land and the water. There is no specific origin from which they come, though the stories behind it seem to mostly be false, but history has shown that they were once often an enemy of pirates and targets of fishers and poachers.

physical appearance
They have a human form that is used mainly for land, but they are known for their beautiful tails. In the case of merfolk here, the tails can either mimic that of animals in the sea or simply be tails of random, colorful scales and fins. Usually, it depends on each individual merfolk's lineage. These scales or other features can often transfer into the human form and they make themselves present when water touches the skin. It becomes difficult for any merfolk to avoid automatically shifting into their tail when they touch water and impossible when they are submerged in it.

behavior
A mysterious species, as they are so often described, they can be a tad odd in personality, almost like they're a bit detached from the world and have their own little place they can be in mentally at the drop of a dime. Like a dream world. They are known to have playful sides and many seem to display an artistic streak of some kind. Aside from these traits in general, their moods can be like the water. Sometimes calm, sometimes not. Otherwise, personalities vary greatly.

abilities
They have stunning voices when they sing; an alluring trait they all share. When a merfolk is attempting to lure someone to them, they can entrance them with their voice, which will strike the intended target and leave them in a haze, turning them into a manipulable puppet for a very short period of time. Younger merfolk have tendencies to entrance people on accident. They also have control over water, almost like a mutant could, but to a bit of a greater extent. They can also communicate with all kinds of water life, fresh and saltwater, where others cannot.

faefolk
created by: staff
Lifespan: 300 years to about 2500 years

history
It's rumored they once were birthed from the spirits in nature, but there is no way to prove it, though they are heavily associated with nature at all times. In many cases, they have been prayed to in hopes of a good crop season. Stories have also been highlighted before that they have been caught in attempts to force their magic onto plants and animals by poor farmers.

physical appearance
Physically, they tend to be a bit on the small side and, though they don't show without the fae summoning them willingly, they have wings. They often represent those of insects and of birds, and are generally translucent with a dusting sparkle falling off of them. The colors of those wings tend to be influenced by the power they are in tune with; ice turns them whitish blue, fire turns them orangish-red. They can use them to sort of fly, but only a few feet off the ground; they don't have the capability to soar to large heights like dragons.

behavior
They are often connected to nature, to the forest that surrounds them, connected to the plants and the animals. There's always a gentle glow around them that makes them seem almost part of the earth. They are known to be a generally gentle, down to earth species, but their wrath is like natural disasters when they are angered: short lived and incredibly devastating.

abilities
Their connections to nature vary and, with it, the nature-related powers they carry. Some can have fire or ice or water or even the ability to communicate with plants and animals. This reflects in their wings, as well, and often times it's very obvious what a fae's power might be. Though, their powers are not as strong as an Elemental's.

'cubi
created by: staff
Lifespan: varies, immortal as long as they feed

history
Well-known for their silver tongues, they are heinous creatures that were often depicted in folklore many years ago as monsters in the night. They are known to lie with sleeping people, men, women, and nonbinaries alike, and have sexual intercourse with them. While it honestly does nothing at first, aside from cause a bit of tiredness, repeated sexual intercourse with an incubus or succubus causes deterioration and often death later on. They quite literally suck the life out of their victims. Quite honestly, they've never been painted pretty in history.

physical appearance
Like others, they have two forms. Their human forms look about as normal as can be, but they have sort of "demon" forms, so to speak. Though the term is inaccurate, seeing as they're not demons at all, it's how it's been painted in history over the years. However, they are honestly no more than vampires that feed through sex and they walked Earth for many years just like every other species. All of the horns, wings, longs teeth and nails, or anything that they can pull out to give them that more demonic look are for nothing more than show.

behavior
Every one of them is very different from the other, though much of society seems to have painted this image of them being sex-crazed and needy at all times. While it might be true for some, many may not even realize they're talking to a 'cubus until it's brought up.

abilities
Obviously, as said before, they feed through sexual intercourse and it takes the life force from their partner, which is what feeds them. Until puberty hits them, usually starting around teenage years, children incubi and succubi feed on normal food as humans would. Until their bodies are capable of developing that species survival instinct, food is what keeps them alive.

That being said, such actions don't affect each other at all, like they cancel each other out. One would think that this could prove to be a problem if two of this species are soulmates, but that is not the case. The pair simply become permanent feeding sources once bonded, feeding off the energy level the other is at from the last non-incubi meal the other had.

Other powers for them include dream walking and silver tongue. Their dream walking powers can only be used if they're in close proximity to the person's dreams they want to walk in and that subconscious has to allow them in; they can't just force their way into someone's dreams. Generally, this is a lesser used power, but it's also sometimes used to subtly manipulate how a person may feel about the 'cubus. Naturally, they have silver tongues and seem to be pretty capable of talking anyone into things.

gryphons
created by: staff
Lifespan: 480 years to several thousand, assumed immortal

history
This species is quite legendary. Legend has it that the lion (the most commonly seen rear half) was considered the king of the beasts and the eagle (the most commonly seen front half) was the king of the birds, thus being thought as a majestic and powerful creature, a king of the creatures, if you will. They have been known to hold many positions of power over time.

physical appearance
They are known for their unique physique. They have the body, tail, and back legs of any sort of feline; they also have the head and wings of any sort of bird, and their forelegs are the talons of said bird. Many years ago, they were known only to have the halves of lions and eagles, but it's assumed that breeding with different types of bird and feline shifters affected the genes they passed on. While their age can affect their size, there are non bigger than quarter horses. It is also possible to have very small gryphons; most of this depends on what they've inherited from their parents, similar to how dragons grow. Human forms usually have a few feathers or fur, generally sharp eyes because of their excellent vision, and they tend to have a strong air about them.

behavior
Gryphons have a similarity with dragons in the sense that they guard treasures and priceless possessions, clingy and protective of the things that they love. They're often known to take pride in their coloration as well, sometimes seen preening and showing off simply so others will look at them.

abilities
Aside from their impeccable hunting and flying abilities, there is really nothing special as far as abilities go for this species.

dragons
created by: staff
Lifespan: 3000+ years, assumed immortal

history
Dragons are powerful, ancient beasts of legend, and have only really made a stronger appearance in society in the last thousand years or so, since quite a few of the dragons retreated after the war to focus on repopulating their numbers; contrary to popular belief, the majority of dragons give live birth rather than lay eggs, proven to be a more effective way of keeping their offspring alive. Another method is hiding their eggs and preventing them from hatching for a few hundred years; any longer than that and the egg will die. It's believed they took the hardest hit as far as casualties went during the war.

physical appearance
Human forms can exude power and dominance, an air that simply speaks to the fact that they are what they are. But their dragon forms vary in size, color, shape and many things. The hair in their human form reflects the scales and sometimes feathers or fur on their own dragon forms. Their eyes are bright colors, sharp and noticeable. The dragon forms tend to vary depending on where they come from. Some are similar to traditional Chinese dragons, some are like Western dragons with four legs and wings, and some are feathered like the Aztec Quetzalcoatl. They can also be something else entirely and their forms are entirely up to your imagination. Their size and strength depends on their age and often times on their genes.

Dragons are one of the only species that can take a half-shift like shifters do, capable of that more anthromorphic look about them, summoning their features all over them. They can control, however, which features show up or not. Meaning they can appear a cross between human and draconic, but keep their wings out of it unless they so choose.

behavior
They are known for their protective and often aggressive tendencies from time to time. But they are also known for the attachments they make to other people. Despite the harsh words that can surround them, their hearts can be made of gold. One of their most defining traits, however, is this need to hoard a particular kind of item, like a treasure, but it can be anything from gold jewelry to colorful pipe cleaner.

abilities
Dragons are capable of dragon magic; it's limited, but each of these abilities is unique to the species. There is absolutely no way to bolster any of these powers to make them stronger than they are. These powers are relatively weak in younger dragons and don't become truly strong until about five hundred years into the lifespan. When the dragon dies, so does all of the magic they have ever cast (blessings would be undone and stone turned to crystal would return to stone, etc.)

Fire-breathing: Their fire is extremely hot and the color of the flame takes on the color of their scales, feathers, etc. A unique thing about their fire is that breathing it across stone for an amount of time will turn it to crystal. That crystal will be mostly clear, but it takes on a smoky color that mimics the color of the flame.

Mindbreaking/Telepathy: They can use this to communicate with others through the mind or break into the deeper parts of the psyche (often times this can help recover things such a memories, or block memories, or even help the dragon learn a new language). However, at all times, this power requires at least subconscious consent for direct use. They can broadcast their mental voices like a loudspeaker, but this is obviously inconvenient.

Crystal Ball: In a way, this is a combination of scrying and fortune telling. They need to have a piece of crystal about the size of a fist in order for this to work. They can conjure up images of the past and potential images of the future, as well as look into the crystal to see people far away from them. However, it has to be of someone they have at the very least heard of before by name. If they have never met nor heard of someone, the faces and images become obscure and unseeable in the crystal until they have more information. This applies to their ability to look into the future as well. When it comes to the past, they can only show things they have experienced themselves.

Blessing: While they have the ability to "bless" others with things such as protection, this power is rarely used, because it has extremely adverse effects. The blessings can vary, but they are usually small. For example, blessing a small child with a protection from danger could result in leaving their mind open to the thoughts of others with no possible chance for an off switch. This does not make a non-mutant into a mutant. The only harmless side effect of a dragon's blessing is a marking of some kind, small and reflective like the crystal they can make.

Force field/Invisibility: Generally, this is not very strong until they're older, but it's been used for millennia to hide hoards from prying eyes. It's more often used for camouflage over the force field half of it. This type of power can be increased in strength temporarily if other dragons are in close proximity using it as well (i.e. several dragons guarding a nest).

Lifespan: eternal, they can "fall" or "fade" but cannot be killed

history
The first angels appeared towards the first times that people began dying, but only when people died and those people came back. There were no angels that "descended" from the sky prior to the deaths of those people, so they have walked Earth as long as any other species. There are two ways to become an angel. You are either born as such or you die and become one. When an angel is born, there must be at least one angel parent, but if there is only one angel parent, then the chances of receiving an angel offspring is slim. Often times, it's more likely the child will end up the species of the non-angel parent. Two angel parents will produce an angel child regardless. When a person dies, there is the chance that they can be randomly selected by nature to be an angel. The process of selection has nothing to do with Heaven or Hell or any kind of religion, since no such things exist here, but it can easily be interpreted as such and seen as a "divine second chance" by those two believe in a higher power. When they come back from death as an angel, they return at the age they died and at the last peak physical condition they were in.

While an angel can "fall", they can also "fade", and this would be their form of dying. They cannot be killed by an outside force and fading away only happens after they have lived for quite some time and have decided that they are fully ready to die and are at peace with themselves. Some angels choose to never fade, some angels choose to fade quite quickly. It all depends.

physical appearance
They have two forms. Their natural form is composed entirely of an incredibly strong source of light that feeds off the positivity of those around them. This natural light form is too bright for any one person to lay their eyes on. It results in headaches and is physically impossible for anyone to keep their gaze upon it. This light can be tainted when an angel falls, and becomes dirty, dark.

The form everyone is familiar with is their human form. In all senses, it's a shell to keep that light from harming others and to provide angels with the ability to coexist with those around them. This corporeal form appears as normal as any other and is the same form they held when they were alive (if they were not born an angel), although all physical attributes of their former species would be gone. Their wings can be quite large in size and some angels have up to three pairs (but no more) of wings sprouting from their backs. These wings can take on any color of the rainbow in a pastel form; the patterns on the wings can vary as well, similar to the presentation of feathers on the wings of birds.

Their bodies no longer really work like any other species. While their human forms can bleed and they can eat, it doesn't do much to them. Instead, they are kept alive by a light within them that feeds off the energy around them; in a case they are surrounded constantly by negativity, that light can become tainted and they can become "fallen", but this is rare considering the strength and purity of that light. When it does happen, their wings become blackened, dirty looking, and their physical states menacing, giving off a dark aura compared to the light of the normal angels'.

behavior
Their behavior is like that of any other, each with their own personality that is unique to them, but something unique to the species is their handling of emotions. Angels feel every emotion around them very strongly and can be influenced by the strong emotions of other, but it also works the other way around. An angel feeling something strongly will exude that emotion and influence the emotions of others around them as well.

abilities
With many angels having gained this status from dying previously, they no longer have the powers of their born species, but they do have powers here. While the powers between them tend to vary slightly, they are very typical for angels. Light manipulation (can possibly take the form of "heavenly fire"), healing abilities, possible psychic-related powers, and emotion-related abilities. If a mutant with one of these powers dies and returns an angel, it is likely they will continue that power in their angel life. Angels generally have all of these powers, except they have most of their strength in one and the rest are incredibly weak by comparison.

kitsune
created by: onomatopathetic (former member)
Lifespan: 3000+ years, assumed immortal

history
Kitsune were first most common in Asian cultures but have since made their way to other parts of the world. In all places they are known as tricksters—stories of the strange fox-creatures disguising themselves as human beings (often times beautiful young women) to lure them into marriage have earned the vulpine creatures the name. They are known for their silver tongues and deceptive natures as well as for having superior intelligence, extremely long lives, and powerful magic.

physical appearance
Kitsune are vulpine shapeshifters, and as such Kitsune have two main forms – that of a mundane human being as well as their “true” form of a humanoid fox. They are normally slender in appearance in both their fox and human forms, and known for delicate (and even beautiful) features. Their hair and eye color tends to be similar to the hair and eyes of their fox forms, but truly gifted Kitsune may be able to warp their appearances even more than the standard two shapes, such as a simple, normal fox form. For every two-hundred years of life a Kitsune gains one more tail, though nine seems to be the limit as to what they can have. So essentially, the older (and consequently wiser) the Kitsune, the more tails they’ll have. A Kitsune that is drunk, careless, or perhaps simply young sometimes has difficulty hiding their tail in their human form.

behavior
Though they are mostly known for merely being mischievous, many have earned reputations of maliciousness which has given the fox-like creatures a societal stigma. They are rarely trusted, and as such, particularly in mixed-species communities, they tend to hide their nature as Kitsune, preferring to go around in their less assuming human roles.

abilities
They are tied very strongly to nature, and as such their magic tends to revolve around that. Their strongest magic lies in illusion, particularly that of disguise upon themselves. However, Kitsune have been known to trick greedy travelers by changing piles of leaves into gold momentarily and can thus warp anything from a natural environment (leaves, twigs, stones or piles of dirt) to take on the appearance of whatever they so wish—as well as the physical touch, taste, or smell (be wary of feasts served by Kitsunes, particularly if you’ve insulted one recently). They have also been known for leading dangerous people astray with their “fox fire” in a manner similar to will-o-the-wisps. Though most of their magic is generally harmless and based only on illusion and trickery, the fire can be used to protect themselves or harm their enemies. A Kitsune can also keep up their illusions for as long as necessary, and these can range from pleasantries to true nightmares.

Kitsune with five tails develop an ability to sense the aura of a person’s luck around them, and warp it to their own desire. If the Kitsune likes you, they may bolster your aura with good luck. If they dislike you, well that’s another story entirely. Kitsune with seven tails gain superior spiritual abilities—they are said to communicate flawlessly with spirits and even call them to their aid at times. Kitsune with nine tails gain superior intellect, and the ability to not only read minds, but to spy on others from afar using still pools of water.

Ages in which tails appear:
Birth: 1st tail
200 years: 2nd tail
400 years: 3rd tail
600 years: 4th tail
800 years: 5th tail
1000 years: 6th tail
1200 years: 7th tail
1400 years: 8th tail
1600 years: 9th tail

phoenixes
created by: onomatopathetic (former member)
Lifespan: eternal life, can possibly not be reborn

history
Birds of flame, phoenixes have been depicted in many myths and legends, famed for their glorious feathers and several abilities. They have been seen as one of those species with powers coveted by others and have often been the target of hunting or cruel practices of repeated killing out of amusement.

physical appearance
While the colors of the feathers take after the hair color of the phoenixes in human form, they tend to range into other colors that are closely related to that initial color. For example, reds can gradient into oranges and yellows, black can gradient into silvers and whites, etc. The style of plumes tends to vary between individual phoenixes, as well as size, but there are no phoenixes bigger than a quarter horse; the size comes with age.

behavior
This species doesn't have any remarkable or particular behavior that applies to them, though many seem to stigmatize they're quite hot-headed because of the flames, which can be true in some cases, but not in all.

abilities
There are many famed abilities of the phoenix. One of those abilities is healing tears. These are generally something a phoenix can muster up of their own will and it is something others have sought after to use for their own will, but phoenix tears cannot be stored. They lose their magical properties after being separated from a phoenix for a couple days.

Another is their abilities with fire, which do not deviate in color from regular flame, but they are searing hot. In a sense, they can bend this fire to their will as perhaps a fire manipulation mutant could. As children, phoenixes are not entirely resistant to flame, especially in human form, and can be hurt by it until their protective plumage grows in around the age of 10 to 12.

Another ability is the regeneration ability, their power to die and come back from the ashes. When a phoenix dies, it is not from old age, it is usually from being killed or from dying of a disease. When either of these things happen, they can fall apart into a pile of ashes and rise from that pile of ashes, but not as a baby. They will regenerate to the point they were last healthiest just before they died, whether it was before the sickness or before any wounds. While this makes it possible for phoenixes to live forever, if their ashes are scattered or in any way separated too far from the spot in which they fell, then they will die.

centaurs
created by: staff
Lifespan: 120 years to 1200 years

history
They are mostly associated with nature in some way, shape or form. Many legends and myths revolve around various tribes and herds of these creatures in the wild before they integrated with society, but they have no specific place of origin.

physical appearance
Their most obvious traits are their blatantly obvious equine halves. The type of equine that shares their body from their waist down, and from the equines neck base down, depends quite a bit on the bloodlines before them. However, they will not always be what their parents are, especially if those parents have different types of equine blood in their family tree. Two Clydesdale centaurs could produce a Zebra centaur, as long as Zebra is somewhere in their bloodline.

The colors of these equine halves can tend to vary, but generally there is a common color scheme between the equine half and the human half. White hair on the human half can produce a white tail. Rainbow stripes on an equine half can produce rainbow-streaked hair. It all varies, and most centaurs are very tall when their equine halves are present, tending to tower over everyone. Because of the awkward size and height when in their equine halves, these creatures have evolved over time to be capable of taking on normal, human forms, though many seem to tend to prefer their half-equine forms.

"Equine" is just a general term, but these halves are not restricted to just horses. Deer, antelope, gazelle, mules, etc. are allowed as well.

behavior
They have no particularly remarkable type of behavior, though a majority seem to have a gentle passion and connection to nature, but a sort of stubborn pride as well. In many aspects, their behaviors may be similar to horses.

abilities
Connected to nature in a very obvious way, these incredible beasts are filled with strength, speed and the endurance of well-trained horses. However, these things come naturally to them, as they are half equine themselves and practically grow with those traits ingrained in their blood. Most centaurs are perfectly capable of outrunning and outlasting many other species; their endurance capabilities are incredibly formidable.

vampires
created by: onomatopathetic (former member)
Lifespan: immortal, can be killed by wooden stakes, fire, sunlight, or blood from angels and 'cubi in some cases

history
The very origins of this unique creature of the night is long lost in legend, the first name of the first vampire unknown to all, but the first vampire’s actions have long since preserved this species and allowed them to survive for many years. There are many myths and legends of a "Vampires vs. Werewolves" history going on, though many cannot attest to that, even if they perhaps didn't enjoy sharing the night at one point.

physical appearance
They appear almost entirely normal when compared to many of the surrounding species. They physique does not change from how it was before, aside from all of the abilities packed into their frames, and they are by no means dead. Their skin has paleness to it because their heart rate has slowed significantly and thus has slowed their circulation, which also makes them incredibly cold to the touch. Donned with a set of pinpoint sharp incisors for biting and drinking, these teeth are not a trait they can make disappear, and when they grin, it will always be a sharp-toothed smile.

behavior
The only remarkable thing about this species, especially in new born vampires, is their blood lust. They are assaulted with a constant blood-thirst, especially those less than a century old, hardly able to control their impulsive needs around human blood. The blood of humans and mutants are incredibly addictive to a vampire, so they tend to stray away from those species, as well as Angels and Incubi and Succubi. Angel blood is too pure, Incubi and Succubi blood is too impure; either will kill a vampire. Any other species is relatively safe to feed from, although Fae blood is similar to alcohol for them, and they are best finding a partner who is willing to consent for them to feed. They can eat actual food, but it is considered the equivalent of junk food for them and drinking blood is found to be much healthier.

abilities
They have an array of abilities, though the most important is the ability to turn others into vampires. Their bite only affects humans, mutants and shifters. The vampire chooses to inject their venom (which they opt not to do when feeding) and those species will forfeit their previous powers. They become sick for several days before the beating of their hearts slow and their bodies finally adjust to the new form. This only has a 75% success rate, the other 25% will die. This includes even the vampire’s own children, as they are born human; the genes must be altered by the venom in order for them to become vampires.

Once a person is turned to a new vampire, they are given a set of shiny new abilities alongside their blood lust. Highly enhanced speed and strength, endurance and hearing, as well as night vision, given they are entirely a nocturnal species. Only much older vampires have glamour abilities, mind-tricking, and it does not affect all species equally and is not very strong in the first place.

While they have quick regenerative powers, can be seen in pictures and mirrors, and aren’t at all affected by religious artifacts or garlic (aside from its horrendously strong smell), every species has its Achilles Heel. Alongside the certain kinds of blood they cannot drink, they cannot cross running water without encountering a horrid dizzy spell and nausea. Vampires also cannot walk into sunlight without a set of special stones embedded in jewelry that protects them from the sun’s rays. If they did not have this jewelry, they would burn to death slowly and any burns given from the sun will heal at the same rate of a human’s body. Some find themselves photophobic, needing sunglasses or a form of shade whenever they go out despite the stones. They are vulnerable to these things, but they are not alone and are frequently looked out for by much older vampires who have the experience newer ones lack. This is where new vampires receive their first stones, but can receive others for free at local supermarkets.

basilisks
created by: nayim (former member)
Lifespan: eternal, as long as they feed properly

history
This ancient species is often mistaken for a commonly shared phobia among quite a few of the general population. While they are in the eyes of many to be nothing more than your common, strangely-colored boa constrictor, they are significantly different from the average reptile. But that hasn't kept them from being the target of poachers and those with a general hatred for this particular reptilian.

physical appearance
When born, they can be born with any color and pattern of scales, regardless of how they appear in their human forms; their hair and skin won’t always match the scales. Those scales, however, are present down the back of each human form, branching out from the spine, usually starting up around their necks and tapering off towards their rear ends. This is not a trait they can rid themselves of in human form, even if a forked tongue present in this form can be. Shifting into their natural snake selves is an entirely painful process if they force it, but is a smooth transformation when they are hungry; it is the most natural manner of shifting. The Basilisk can become as large as an adult boa constrictor, but no larger, as stealth is a need for hunting.

Although reptiles are often portrayed as evil, these slithering hunters are betrayed emotionally by their eyes. They can change their eye color to gold and silver at will, the former turning prey to stone and the latter releasing them from their capsules. Aside from this general, voluntary change in color, every Basilisk’s eyes change color depending on their mood. These colors are not lethal in any way and every Basilisk has their own color code for their feelings, and it is only the beginning of their obvious appearances. They can, however, change these colors at will on certain occasions, when attempting to be threatening or even when attempting to be cute.

behavior
Basilisks are closely-related to snakes when it comes to their behavior. They are fiercely territorial and protective over what they consider to be theirs, whether people or turf, but especially towards other Basilisks. But towards nearly anyone they see as a potential mate, they will become flashy little attention-seekers, attempting to attract possible lovers who could be their soulmates, showing off those unique scales of theirs and shifting their eyes to take on a romantic color.

abilities
They are stealthy hunters that feed off the soul-energy of the prey they turn to stone. With a flash of gold eyes, people and animals will be turned solid. The longer-lifespan the prey of the Basilisk has, the more that life-force will feed them, but this only affects animals and humans. A Basilisk can choose to feed partially on their prey, then release them with a flash of silver eyes, or they can choose to drain their life-force, in which case the statue will crumble to dust.

unicorns
created by: staff
Lifespan: assumed immortal

history
Mythical creatures of the deep wood, they are quite often depicted as the pinnacle of beauty and peace. One of the lesser populated species of the world, the beauty in their appearance lives up to legend delivered by mouth, sketch and writing. For centuries, their horns and hooves have been sought by hunters and poachers as trophies and sometimes weapons. Unfortunately, the most desired prize of a unicorn is their blood. This has made them a highly wanted target, even into today.

physical appearance
Their coats and manes are sleek, of various color, texture and style, matching the hair they were born with to the finest detail that is nigh perfectly mimicked in human form. A distinct shimmer of their hairs never seems to fade from their equine bodies, giving them a rather popular ‘magical’ aura about them.

There are two trademarks to the appearance of a unicorn. The lesser famed of the two are very distinct markings of any color on various places on the body, each unique to the unicorn they are found upon, almost as an identification system between unicorns that may look alike. They show up on their human forms, unable to hide them, resembling tattoos. The most well-known icon of the unicorn is the horn that spirals from the center of their foreheads, mimicking the colors of either their hair or their distinct markings. The horn is made of an incredibly dense material and, while not impossible, it is extremely difficult and takes a significant amount of force to remove a horn, let alone crack or chip it. The horn usually only comes off once a unicorn is dead. The hooves are made of the same material and present physically in the same color as the horn.

behavior
Needing their blood to live, unicorns are no longer the picture of peace. Many years of slaughter and hunting and their numbers dwindling as a species have turned them naturally aggressive. Usually, they will travel alone or in pairs or in very small family groups, finding they are in danger of becoming further extinct if there are more than that. Traveling solo is dangerous, because another unicorn is not around to heal if one is hurt, which is why pairs tend to be most common. They are easily provoked into becoming violent, for fear of being hunted. Their strength is formidable, matching many other species. However, they prefer to never be known as unicorns in the first place, often hiding in the deep wood, where they can communicate peacefully with all animals, blessed with a calming presence and an omnilingualism that helps them to survive in natural habitats, or in society in human forms, trying to pass off as any other species they can.

abilities
Thick and silver in nature, rather than thin and red as it is in all other species, their blood is a potent healing agent, capable of destroying whatever is harming the body and restoring it to perfect health. It is known to elongate the life of any species. For those with shorter lifespans or with little time left to live, this is a desperately desired thing. But ingesting this thick liquid can come at a horrible price. It is terribly addictive, much like a drug, and ingesting too much, which often happens, will turn it into an aggressive poison. It will destroy the body from the inside out. Addictive and healing to other unicorns, ingesting the blood of another unicorn will not harm them.

They have a naturally calming presence and are born omnilingual. They can understand and speak any language on the planet, including that of other species, animals, plants, etc. It's important to their survival. There is only one way to discover if a person is truly a unicorn: make them bleed.

valkyries
created by: crystalcat (former member)
Lifespan: immortal, can be killed through disease or beheading

history
A rather unique species, Valkyries come from age-old legend, said to be birthed of the magic from the gods Woden and Freyja. A warrior, a brave woman, was wounded mortally in battle and Freyja feared what the world would lose should this maiden perish. Struck with the lightning of Woden, the warrior was saved, but woke pregnant with a daughter. When this woman birthed her child, Valkyries were brought into existence. A mostly female species with appearance and powers unique to them.

physical appearance
They have an incredibly small stature, smaller than most women (and males, in the rare case they are), and distinctive tiny canine teeth as well as pointed ears. Rather than finger and toe nails, they are born with sharpened claws. Their eyes, usually of normal color, will flash a metallic shade of silver with heightened emotions.

Also, Valkyries are mostly female, born through breeding two Valkyries or with the mother being a Valkyrie or even a woman struck with the lightning of Woden, her chosen to bear a Valkyrie child; this makes majority of this species female, due to the DNA being exactly like the mother's. Males are rarely born and it only happens every few decades. Either way, the child will come out looking like a replica of the mother.

behavior
Despite tiny bodies, they are well known for their courage and beauty, cunning and inquisitiveness, enhanced strength and speed, all said to have come from Woden and Freyja. They can tend to be seen as quite the rowdy bunch, but every Valkyrie varies in personality.

abilities
They have an ability to pierce glass and eardrums with their screams; this power comes to them with ease, enhanced strength and speed. Although, generally only much older Valkyries are capable of bench-pressing Buicks.

However, they have their weaknesses like many other species. Their greatest weakness is shiny gemstones, sending them into a trance and leaving them incapable of much. However, these gems must be very real, otherwise they have absolutely no effect on a Valkyrie. That means real diamonds and rubies and so on. They're also quite the set of shopaholics.

elementals
created by: staff
Lifespan: immortal, can be killed through heavy use of powers or destruction/separation of their core, or can be killed by an opposing element

history
A unique and particularly rare species, many are not formed beyond their birth. They can be born from two parents or from a spontaneous elemental event, though so many rarely form beyond a flicker of flame. To form fully, they need a core, an object in which to form to that rests in the center of them; this is considered by many elementals to be the “true” birth, as the core allows an elemental to form a mind, body and personality. They have no need for internal organs aside from that core, but can create them for various purposes, like reproduction. These creatures have impeccable control over their element as they grow older, but it comes with its several drawbacks alongside bountiful benefits.

physical appearance
Cores are extremely important to this species. It is like their heart. A core is something of a “container” that corresponds strongly with the element it’s bonding to. For example, a fire elemental could have a burning piece of charcoal. These cores can be natural, but they can also be artificially made and no one makes them better than other elementals. A fire elemental’s core could be a blown glass ball or a water elemental’s core could be a carved coral bead. Damaged cores are bad news for elementals, if they are destroyed, the elemental will fade back into their element, but cores can be repaired by trained individuals. If an untrained individual attempts to repair the core, it will cause more harm than good and even a properly repaired core can be rejected by the elemental’s body. Core switches can be performed, but only in absolutely dire needs; there are few success stories of core switches. It can cause memory loss and personality change.

There are various forms in which an elemental can take, and they are as follows: human form, transitional form, elemental creature form and element form. Human form is simple, for it is how they appear as a human! Their elements are simply inside. Their transitional forms aren’t too complicated either. They appear with human shape, but they are very visibly their element and are not intended to stay in this form for long before falling into their next form. Each elemental has only one elemental creature form and it has to naturally correspond to their element, such as a salamander to a water elemental. The creature form isn't any specific type of dog or cat or whatever. It would just be dog, cat, etc. because the creature form is very visibly the element, too. This is what separates them from shifters and regular animals. On a whole, these forms are fairly small; while size can vary based on the energy available in the surroundings, the bigger the elemental creature form, the harder it is for the inhabitant to control it and the easier it is for the elemental to be consumed by its element. Sometimes these forms will morph beyond that of an animal, but usually only when the elemental has such little control over it. It can become monsteresque. The final form, the element form, is the elemental’s default form before they fade from existence. A breeze, a flicker of flame, or a drop of rain.

behavior
Particularly speaking, many take on personality attributes of their given element. Fire elementals can be passionate and hot-headed, whereas ice elementals can be cold-shouldered. Although not true in all cases, this is often observed in them.

abilities
The obvious abilities that come with elementals is their ability to bend their element to their will. But, there also many other important aspects to them.

While entirely impervious to human disease, elementals must also eat! They do not eat as many others would do. They must feed on whatever feeds their element, which can be vastly different for each elemental. A fire elemental may feed on wood. A metal elemental may feed on metal, but may eat fire to digest the ore they have eaten. An earth elemental may have a garden for a stomach and may need fertilizer and water to survive! The more the elemental eats, the bigger they can grow, but the opposite is also true: the less eaten, the more they shrink. If an elemental runs out of food or is in danger, they can hibernate in their core, but this leaves the core exposed and they can sleep for centuries before waking back up (or being accidentally killed).

Elementals come about in two different ways. One is from the elements in nature themselves. More powerful elementals come from the elements themselves, spirits of wildfires or tsunamis or earthquakes. The second way is through a mated pair of parents. Two elementals create an elemental child, but if an elemental child is to be born, either the mother or the father must be an elemental. The interesting thing, however, is that in the case of only one parent being an elemental, it is the mother’s species that influences whatever element the child ends up being if the child is born an elemental. Allowable elements are found here: click!

Below is a list of what species in a mother influences what element.

Humans – Based on personality (outgoing could create a fire elemental, etc)
Mutants – Based on mutant ability or personality (a technology mutant can influence a metal elemental)
Shifters – Based on animal shift or personality (salamander shifter could influence a water elemental)
Dragon – Fire, Metal

Gryphon – Wind
Kitsune – Fire, Nature
Fae – Wildcard (based on natural affinity, an ice faefolk will influence an ice elemental)
Centaurs – Earth, Nature
Werewolf – Earth, Nature
Merfolk – Water
Angels – Light, Wind
Incubus/Succubus – Darkness, Fire
Vampire – Darkness, Water
Basilisks – Stone, Metal
Unicorns – Nature, Light, Darkness
