roleplayer levelWe accept all levels of roleplayers, from beginning to advanced, but you must be at least 15 years of age to join AoM. All mature and premium content is tagged accordingly and since it is not the focus of our site, we thus have an open rating. We also do not have a minimum word count nor do we have a character restriction. You may have as many characters as you like and as many as you can handle.
premiumOur premium status is here for the sake of people using it if they want to, meaning anything above a PG-13 rating is allowed, so long as all mature threads are tagged with [M] in the title and tagged with all appropriate warnings in the first post. All of these threads must be posted in the appropriate Mature Threads subforums, which are age restricted.
The legal age of consent in the state of Pennsylvania is 16 years old. Only characters 16 years of age or older may participate in threads with sexual content. Please understand the severity of the consequences for this rule in particular. Any member under the age of 18 participating in mature threads could result in the site being shut down without warning, not to mention potential legal consequences as well. This is all in accordance with Jcink ToS. Do not take this rule lightly. If a member under the age of 18 is caught participating in an M-rated thread, they will be banned.
play fairDo not god-mod or powerplay. No matter how strong you think your character is, no one enjoys someone who is going to try and take over everything by force. AoM's main roleplaying focus is on character building and storytelling and romance. Not everything will be allowed simply because of its fantasy aspects. Common sense rules of roleplaying apply here just as they would anywhere else.
consent is everythingIf someone does not want to do something nor participate in something, do not attempt to push it onto them. No one has to do anything they don't want to do and we won't tolerate harassment. That being said, because we are premium and have mature content, no one is required to participate or even read it. If you have an issue or feel uncomfortable dealing with another member or even staff member, then please alert a staff member so the situation can be handled.
accountsWe are an account-per-character site. All members are required to have an OOC Account with their alias, which you will make first (typically, your alias is what you go by in the c-box). Each character is to have an account, with proper capitalization, and you can link it to your OOC Account under My Controls --> Edit Sub-Accounts. This allows you to switch between accounts with ease.
All images must be appropriate and kept PG-13. Staff will remove or change any inappropriate images. You may also not link any of your own personal roleplay forums anywhere on your accounts. It is extremely disrespectful to utilize anything but the advertising boards that we have provided specifically for advertising to promote your site.
face claimsFace claims are not required. We do not accept real life or celebrity face claims, though we will accept live action show or movie faces as long as they have animanga style art (i.e. Castiel from Supernatural). We also allow OC Art! This is one of the wonderful things about AoM. Any art that you have drawn or had drawn for you is perfectly acceptable as your character's face. If someone else has drawn it, however, you must give proper credit. Do not steal art.
no canonsWe do not accept canon characters from any show. AoM is an original character site only. If you are inspired by characters in shows, movies, books, etc., then feel free to model your character after them, but anything that takes too closely to canon things will not be accepted on the site. We encourage diversity and creativity among your characters. You may not make a character younger than 13 years of age or older than 25,000 years of age.
liquid timeWhile the month and year of the site is the one that we are in, in real life, the site does follow something called liquid time. This means that your characters can be in as many threads as you can handle at the same time. If a thread is started in November and it is currently March, then the thread will still be set in November. That being said, we can't be in the month of March and you decide to start a thread saying it's October. The site moves in real and liquid time.
c-box etiquetteCommon sense rules apply. Do not impersonate, advertise, or start any drama. Staff will not hesitate to ban anyone who is causing a problem in the c-box. If the staff tell you to stop or change the subject, then do so. The same goes if another member expresses discomfort with the current subject. Be respectful and change the topic. The c-box is strictly PG-13. Do not talk about sensitive topics and avoid IC roleplaying. Any mention of rape or pedophilia in the c-box is prohibited and will result in immediate banning; you should know better. Remember that the c-box is a privilege, not a right.
activityReal life should always come first! If you're going to be gone for an extended period of time, then post a hiatus in the Hellos and Goodbyes board. We respect the fact that people get busy with school, family, etc., and thus aren't extremely strict on our activity as long as we know what's going on. If you can't get a chance to post a hiatus, then at least tell a staff member you're going to be busy for a while. We monitor activity on the OOC Accounts and if there isn't any sign of activity on an OOC Account for more than a month without a hiatus, then the accounts get deleted. We also hold mandatory activity checks about every four months. Additionally, any unsorted member accounts of accepted members left unused for 2+ months will be deleted.
q&aDo you have any questions or concerns about anything? Contacting a staff member will be your best bet! We can give you a definite answer. Don't be afraid to come to us either if you have a problem or a concern about something. We're here to help and make the site better through constant feedback. We don't bite and we can't solve an issue that you have if you don't tell us what's happening!
have fun! That's the golden rule of any roleplay site, isn't it?
